Does the canister need to be shaken again during use
It is recommended to shake the can occasionally during use and especially after interruptions to avoid respiration of the propellant und prepolymer.
How can foam spots be removed
Fresh foam can be removed with a PU cleaner. Cured foam can only be removed mechanically or by using a special cured foam cleaner.
How should I store an opened can of gun foam
The best thing you can do is to leave the cannister securely on the gun. If you do not leave the can on the gun, clean the valve and the gun with Gun & Foam cleaner. When leaving the can on the gun, it is important to empty the can before unscrewing it from the gun to prevent accidents with the foam.
Is it necessary to moisten the surface before using foam
We recommend spraying the substrate with a fine layer of water as the foam needs moisture to cure properly. Benefits of this include: Better cell structure Improved adhesion Faster curing times Better foam in general If the surface isn’t moistened there is a risk of the foam not curing properly and effecting the rate of expansion. The only exception to this is with 2K foam. This type of foam will harden without water because it contains a chemical within that will enable a reaction.
Is PU foam pest-proof
PU foam can create a good seal to keep bugs/insects out of the dwelling. PU Foam will not stop rats or mice as they will find another way through. PU foam can be used in conjunction with a wire mesh to stop larger pests from entering.
Is there a negative effect on the foam if the can is not shaken thoroughly prior to use
Polyurethane foam consists of a prepolymer and a propellant gas, which seperate to form two layers during storage. The can must be shaken vigorously before use to mix these two components and create a homogeneous mixture. Insufficient shaking will effect the performance and properties of the foam, resulting in poor cell structure and reduced foam volumes.
What is PU foam expansion
Expansion can vary depending on whether the product is Gun Grade or Hand-Held. Hand-held foam will expand by 150-200%, which means the joint/cavity only needs to be filled by 30-40%. If the product is Gun-Grade the foam will expand by 50-100%, meaning the joint/cavity will need to be filled by at least 50%. Expansion rate will depend on the ambient and can temperatures, as well as humidity.
Why should I store a can with the valve pointed upwards
The valve contains a washer that links the outside of the can to the inside; this is not 100% airtight. If water does manage to get inside, it can react with the isocyanate in the cannister and begin to cure, resulting in a valve blockage. If the product has the ‘Duravalve’ system, there is no problem with storing the can horizontally.
