Composite Deck Joist (40mm x 30mm) - Ensure a Stable Foundation for Your Decking
Build a sturdy foundation for your decking project with the 40mm x 30mm Composite Deck Joist. These joists are essential for providing structural support to your composite decking boards, ensuring a durable and long-lasting outdoor space. Whether you're creating a deck in your garden, on a terrace, or around a pool, these joists play a crucial role in maintaining the stability of your decking installation.
Key Features:
1. Stable Foundation: The Composite Deck Joist (40mm x 30mm) offers a stable foundation for your decking, supporting the weight of the decking boards and any additional load.
2. Flat Surface Requirement: It is recommended to lay the joists on a solid, flat surface. Avoid uneven paving, sand, or grass, as these may cause movement that could lead to damage over time.
3. Optimal Joist Centers: Aim for joist centers no greater than 300mm for standard installations. If installing DuraDek boards on the diagonal, reduce the joist centers to 250mm. For installations above ground level, 250mm centers are recommended for added stability.
4. Double Joists for Butt Joints: Use double joists under butt joints to enhance support. Install one clip on each side of the butt joint and maintain an 8mm end-to-end gap for drainage and expansion.
5. Versatile Application: Suitable for various decking projects, including gardens, terraces, and around pools, the Composite Deck Joist provides versatility in its application.
6. Diagonal Installation Consideration: When working with diagonal installations, follow a center-out approach and maintain a 250mm joist center for optimal stability.
7. Above-Ground Level Installation: For installations above ground level, adhere to the recommended 250mm joist centers to ensure a secure and durable decking structure.
Installation Notes:
- Ensure the joists are laid on a flat and stable surface.
- Follow recommended joist centers based on your specific installation scenario.
- Use double joists under butt joints for added support.
- Consider the 8mm end-to-end gap for drainage and expansion.
Create a reliable foundation for your composite decking with the 40mm x 30mm Composite Deck Joist. Enjoy a robust structure for your outdoor living space.

What is WPC decking?
WPC decking is an alternative decking product made from wood plastic composites, a unique composition that replicates wood without the maintenance of traditional timber decking.
How is WPC decking installed?
Installing WPC decking involves the following steps:
- Prepare and build the substructure: Ensure good drainage, keep joists at a maximum of 250mm centres, and allow room for expansion by keeping the WPC subframe set from surrounding walls or obstacles.
- Fix the decking boards: Attach the decking boards to the composite decking joists using fixing clips.
- Finish the deck: Tidy up the sides with an angle trim.
What should be considered during WPC decking installation?
Key considerations include maintaining good drainage, proper spacing between boards to account for expansion, and allowing the boards to acclimatize on-site for 72 hours before installation.
How to clean WPC decking?
To clean WPC decking:
- Pour hot water onto the decking and let it soak for 5-10 minutes.
- Work warm water and a neutral soap into the decking using a soft bristle brush.
- Either pressure wash to remove soap or rinse down with hot water.
- Remove water from the deck with a rubber-edged brush.
- Mop up remaining wet areas with a clean mop.
What should be expected regarding color changes in WPC decking?
Color may fade slightly over the first 12 months but will then settle down. It is advisable to store the boards on-site for 72 hours before installation to allow them to acclimatize.
Are there specific considerations for expansion in WPC decking?
Yes, variations in temperature will cause the boards to move, so there must always be a gap between two WPC products to accommodate this expansion.
